Who is responsible

This website and the canopy tour it describes are operated by Corporación Turística del Bosque Nuboso S.A., corporate ID 3-101-504200, in Monteverde, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, trading as The Original Canopy Tour. That company is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

You can reach us about anything in this policy at reservas@canopyoriginal.com.

What this website does not do

This site contains no contact forms, no user accounts and no newsletter sign-up: there is no way to submit information to us through the pages themselves.

That is not the whole picture, and the sections below complete it: what our measurement provider records while you browse, what happens if you write to us, what happens when you open the booking system, and what we keep afterwards.

When you write to us

If you contact us by email or WhatsApp, for example to arrange pickup after booking or to ask about a group of more than 10 people, we receive and process whatever you choose to send us, so that we can answer you and handle your request.

We use it for that purpose and to keep a record of what was agreed with you. Please do not send us information we have not asked for and do not need.

Measurement and cookies

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how many people visit the site, which pages they read, and how many go on to open the booking system. To do that, Google sets two cookies in your browser and records information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type.

We look at this in aggregate. We do not use it to identify you individually. Our measurement setup currently consists of that analytics alone: it does not include advertising tags, remarketing or social-media tracking pixels. If that changes, we will update this policy.

Google processes this information as our provider and may do so on servers outside Costa Rica. You can prevent it by blocking cookies in your browser settings, by browsing in private mode, or by installing Google's own Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Hosting and server records

For security, diagnostics and to keep the site available, our hosting provider keeps standard server records, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is ordinary for any website and we do not use those records to build a profile of you.

Booking and payment

We use Flora Plus as our external provider for reservations and payment. When you open the booking system, it appears within this website, but the reservation process itself is operated by Flora Plus and loads services run by Flora Plus and its own providers, which may set their own cookies. What you enter there, including your contact and payment details, is submitted to that service and handled under the policies that apply to it, not on this website.

We describe this here so you know what is happening on the page. We do not control that service and this policy does not describe how it handles information internally.

What we receive when you book

Once a reservation is made, we receive and keep the details we need to run your tour: first name, last name, phone number, email address and booking reference. If you booked through an intermediary, we receive from that intermediary the booking details we need to run your tour.

We use them to prepare and confirm your tour, to meet our accounting and legal obligations and to contact you about your tour, for example if you ask us to arrange pickup or if the weather forces a change. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising.

The waiver you sign at reception

Before the tour starts you sign a liability waiver at our reception. That document is completed on paper, at our premises, and we keep the signed copy. It does not pass through this website or through the booking system.

Photographs during the tour

Our guides take photographs during the tour and offer them to you for purchase when it ends. That is what those photographs are for. If you would prefer not to be photographed, tell your guide at the start and we will respect it.

Children and young people

This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them through it. Reservations are made by an adult.

Where a guest is a minor, the information we hold about them comes from the booking made by an adult and from the waiver signed on their behalf by a parent or legal representative. If you believe we hold information about a minor that should not be there, write to reservas@canopyoriginal.com and we will look into it.

How long we keep it

We keep each kind of information for as long as it is reasonably necessary for the purpose it was collected for: to provide the tour, to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations, to deal with any claim or complaint, and to protect our legitimate interests. That means different periods for different records. A booking detail, a signed waiver and a photograph are not kept on the same clock.

When information is no longer needed for any of those purposes, we delete it or stop being able to link it to you.

Your rights

Costa Rican data protection law applies to how we handle personal information. You may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it.

Write to reservas@canopyoriginal.com. We may need to confirm who you are before we act, so that we do not disclose someone else's information, and we will answer within a reasonable time.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our website or our operation changes. The effective date below always refers to the version you are reading.
