Our story

Where the canopy tour was born

Monteverde, 1994. Before ziplines were everywhere, they were here.

In the early 1990s, in the cloud forests of Monteverde, a group of adventurous biologists and conservationists had an idea: what if you could explore the forest canopy from above — moving through it the way the wind and the wildlife do?

They engineered the first zipline system for traveling through the canopy, and in 1994 The Original Canopy Tour opened to the public: the first canopy tour in the world, and the blueprint for an activity that would spread across Costa Rica and far beyond.

Our journey began with a simple idea: to provide a thrilling way for people to experience the natural beauty of Monteverde while respecting and preserving its unique ecosystem.

Three decades later, we still run it the way it was conceived — tree to tree, in small groups, with platforms built around living trees instead of towers, keeping the impact on the ecosystem minimal and the wonder intact.

Our certified bilingual guides care deeply about this forest. They'll clip you safely onto the first cable, point out the howler monkeys and morpho butterflies, and — if the mist opens up — maybe even a resplendent quetzal.
